How to hack your LG CU400 phone

For all those who asked for the bluetooth data transfer enabling code,
follow these instructions:

From the home screen, type in this code:
277634#*#

If you entered the code correctly a hidden menu should show up.
Navigate to the following item:
Port Setting > Data Setting > BT Set for Data

That's all. Now press the [END] button and cycle your phone off and
on again; you should be able to send mp3's to your phone now.

If you're really brave, and you want to mess around with your phone even further (not recommended...) you can type in another code, which will bring up even more options.

While in the hidden service menu, type the following code:
2945#*#

To exit just press the [END] key.
PLEASE make sure not to mess around too much,
it may render your phone useless!

Excellent instructions on how to enable BT to import from my Mac.

Next, how do you move the files from the BT files to the RingTone files??

Josh said...

I believe it shows up under audio & ringtones as well

Mr. Genius, do you know if this works for the little brother cg300?

Thanks

Try the 2945#*# code form the home screen.
or this code: 2945#*88110#

The following code should work on all LG phones:
*#06# shows IMEI information

The BT code didnt work for the CG300, any other ideas for that model? Thanks:)

All,

Thank you for this useful information. It's especially helpful if one needs to prevent a family bandwidth hog from running up the data bill. My previous phone, a Samsung x507 (terrible voice quality) had the option of modifying the MediaNet settings right in the main menu, but the cu400 does not. Accessing Modem Setting | GRPS Attach | When needed (instead of Power on) did the trick. No access to Cingular Mall, and I can still call and text. I'm extremely pleased.

Again, thank you.

Hey, I don't wanna bust your bubble, but I think you can still change those settings under Settings > Connection > Network Profiles

Anonymous said...

I only have the option to view the Media Net settings in Network Profiles in my cu400 with Cingular, whereas the Samsung x507 allowed me to tab down into each setting and modify. If I'm missing something, feel free to enlighten me.

Yeah you're right

Okay, so I input the code that you said, pressed the right keys, and it said BT data enabled. BUT, my iSync still won't recognize it ... any hints?

Joshmax said...

afaik this phone will never work with iSync because it does not support PC Syncing. However, you should be able to send & receive files from the Mac.

Hi; thanks for the code.

I notice the same menu has a "USB Set for Data" option as well. I've set that, re-booted the phone, and have a USB cable for the phone. I'm hoping this will let me transfer files to/from my non-Bluetooth Mac. It's not detecting the phone automatically, though. Do you know if there's some software that will let me do this?

Joshmax said...

I've been told by a Cingular rep that a USB cable can connect your computer to the internet, that's all.

Look for a program called bitpim, it may help you.

Thx for all the good information...my problem is the following: I am working in a country where the bank used is different then Cingular's...My phone is already unlock but I cannot find a way to change the my band settings...I know the phone is a Quad...Any Help would greatly b appreicated.

has anyone found a way to move mp3s from BT Files to Ringtone Files? furthermore, is there a way to delete the mp3 ringtones that come stock?

Joshmax said...

I believe mp3's from bluetooth are readily available to be used as a ringtone, as far as deleting built-in tones - I believe that cannot be done.

Hacker_In_Training said...

I don't know anything about hacking into the phone but you can trick the phone setting the mp3 to ringtone before the tranfer is complete.

Anonymous said...

is there anything else of worth that you can do to this phone besides Bluetooth transfers? I also was wondering why this phone is not compatible with the
SMS Message feature offered by Mac's Address Book. is there a way to change this?

Anonymous said...

any way to dissable certain menu options such as ATT Mall, MEdia Net, Cellular Video, PPT, Entertainment, etc.?

Joshmax said...

afaik those options are built-in, and cannot be disabled.

Anonymous said...

Josh- Under the menu Phone Test mode > Port Setting , there's an option, number 4, Mass Storage. Selecting that yields the message "Fail!! Try to set Mass Storage" What can I do, or if further expertise is needed, who can help me find codes to further unlock the phone's memory?

Anonymous said...

Curious to know if, in the hidden menu, can you change anything to allow you to use custom tones for your "Message Alert" tone??

Arrowhead said...

yeah, i second that question. ive looked around and havent found anything. that might ba part of the phone's inherent filesystem

do i need to buy a usb cable

Joshmax said...

I don't think a cable will help you because you cannot access the voice records of the phone anyway

Hi guys, I am wondering if you know how to unlock LG CU400 from ATT/Cingular? Any comments will be greatly appreaciated. Thanks!

how do i make my ringtones

Anonymous said...

Instead of buying any USb cords for the LG CU400 phone, I bought a Bluetooth USB Adapter (6 bucks on ebay) and can easily transfer data to and from via bluetooth. You can make your mp3's and wav's into ringtones using the program coolringer. From there you can use the bluetooth to transfer it. Coolringer can convert most songs to be used as ringtones on this phone but sometimes it doesn't work out. Overall, this is the best and cheapest way of doing data transfer.

I have an older iBook running OSX 10.4.10, no BT adapter or USB cable yet. I did take my CU400 to a local store and try it with a MacBook's built-in BT some months back. All I got was what looked like an empty file system. After discovering this post, I repeated the experiment with the magic code entered, but nothing changed. Am I missing something that I need to do to see directories/files? Can someone point me to what I need to do/should expect to see??

I have found a local source for a USB cable and it seems that this phone will work with BitPim, even though not officially supported. BT seems better though. (Can BitPim work through BT?) I can used the BT adapter for other purposes, unlike the proprietary cable.

As far as my goals, I want to be able to get pictures & video out of the phone, silence the annoying start & shutdown sounds, maybe modify ringtones and tether my iBook for occasional Internet access. Ditto for wife's XP PC.

THANKS!

This is not directly related, but does anyone know if there are any settings in this menu to change it so that when I use the phone as a bluetooth modem to connect to my own DIALUP provider it charges me for airtime instead of data transfer? No matter how I set things up it seems to charge me for data transfer even though I'm just calling my dialup provider. I'm thinking maybe there's a setting in hrere to fix that?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know the code to unlock the cu400 so it is compatible with tmobile?

Anonymous said...

thanks for the codes but i want to know how you get to browse the net using the bluetooth?

Joshmax said...

To unlock your phone from AT&T/Cingular you need to ask them for the unlock code - they'll send you the code in about 10 days.

Joshmax said...

To be charged by data instead of minutes you have to connect via GPRS not dial a number.

To connect via GPRS enter the following info:
Account name: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Telephone: #99***1#

Joshmax said...

Unbranding a phone means updating or flashing the firmware (after unlocking). To find out if an unbranded phone has the features you looking for - you have to ask someone who has an unbranded phone. In the CU400 case I believe you won't gain anything by unbranding.

can anyone help me, please ! i record a song, i want to set it as ringtone, but it come up with amr not mp3. can anyone shown me the way make it into mp3, please!!!

My CU400 can't display russian letters, even when I select any Unicode encoding option from Character Encoding under Media Net>Browser Settings. I installed Opera Mini but it did not help. I had a Nokia phone before and it displayed russian characters without any special adjustments. Is there a way to fix this phone to display russian characters correctly? btw, I have the same problem with sms messages as well. :((

Big Thanks!

I want to Uplaod/transfer My Photos, Audio, and video to the computer to Snapfish/photobucket/vimeo/youtube. I have the USB cable. Everytime I dconnect to the computer it says hardware found and because I'm on the library computer it asks for the administrators password. Would this usb cable work otherwise to upload to photos/audio/video? Would i need software or would the bluetooth Jabra A320 work? I have a PowerMac g4 but no internet. Could I take it to a cafe with internet and then would the USB cable work? I'm trying to figure this out because I don't know how to bypass the admin and the library and I have no internet at home.

How can I transfer the photos and videos to my computer?

Thanks!

Hi, I forgot to say in my previous post that I connected via Bluetooth. I also used your advice about hacking into the phone. But it made no difference.
